Welcome to the World Studies Media Center Website at VCU
The World Studies Media Center (WSMC) is VCU's language resource center. Our facility is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of world languages with media, instructional technology, self-guided study, and innovative translingual pedagogies such as Teletandem, Global Virtual Classroom, and Online Intercultural Exchange. We strive to provide an environment that is welcoming, supportive, and conducive to teaching and learning foreign languages. The WSMC computers are configured to deliver the most useful tools and resources for teaching and learning world languages and our instructional spaces are optimized for carrying out Teletandem activities for groups of up to 28 students in Hibbs 426 and 35 students in Hibbs 424. The WSMC is configured to deliver an array of tandem activities.
With the advent of convergent media, and given the ubiquity of smartphones, webcams, and face-to-face online conferencing, the WSMC is committed to fully exploring the potential benefits of online telecollaborative language learning.
Feel free to browse through our website. The Teletandem section has more information about specific language exchange projects and includes video clips of live sessions carried out in our labs. VCU Students, please stop by and visit the WSMC and see how we can help you make your language learning experience more dynamic and interactive.
My student staff and I look forward to assisting you with your language learning needs throughout the academic year. We're located on the fourth floor of Hibbs Hall, Monroe Park Campus.
