Make Language Learning Real!

Welcome to the World Studies Media Center (WSMC) Website at VCU

The WSMC is VCU's language resource center. Our facility is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of world languages with media, instructional technology, self-guided study, and innovative translingual pedagogies such as Teletandem, Global Virtual Classroom, and Online Intercultural Exchange. We strive to provide an environment that is welcoming, supportive, and conducive to teaching and learning foreign languages. The WSMC computers are configured to deliver the most useful tools and resources for teaching and learning world languages and our instructional spaces are optimized for carrying out Teletandem activities for groups of up to 30 students. With the advent of digital and social media and given the ubiquity of smartphones, webcams, and face-to-face online conferencing, the WSMC is committed to fully exploring the potential benefits of online telecollaborative language learning.

Feel free to browse through our website. The Teletandem section has more information about specific language exchange projects and includes video clips of live sessions carried out in our labs.

The WSMC will reopen on August 16th. Please stop by and see us. We're located on the fourth floor of Hibbs Hall, Monroe Park Campus. My student staff and I look forward to assisting you with your language learning needs throughout the academic year.

Sincerely,

Anton T. Brinckwirth, Ph.D.
